Look alike?

 Right after I had Oliver, I thought that he looked like Riley. I was looking through old baby pictures, and they look exactly alike! The top picture is Riley and the bottom picture is Oliver.

Mia's Eye Surgery

Mia's left eye has always turned out when she's tired or stressed. Dr. Tufty said it was from her being premature. We always knew that we would try and correct it at some point. Mike and I have been talking about doing the surgery for quite some time. We finally figured it was time to do it.

We had to take her in for an eye appointment prior to surgery so Dr. Tufty could measure her eyes. He said he will most likely do both eyes. I was surprised at that. I figured he'd only do her left eye. He said the right starts to compensate for the left and that's the reason they do both.

 Her surgery was on February 27th. We had to be there around 6 am. It was a very early morning for us. She did really well getting checked in to the pre-op center. She was actually excited for her surgery. She didn't know what to expect though.

 I was trying to lighten the mood a bit. They let me walk her back to the OR and I stayed with her while the anesthesiologist administered the medication to put her to sleep. She let Mia play Hungry Hippos on her phone as she gave her laughing gas. Mia busted out giggling. It was funny. A second later, she was sound asleep.

The nursing supervisor came and got me when Mia was brought to Post-op. She had a rough time waking up from anesthesia. I came around the corner and I could hear her yelling at the top of her lungs. There were 4 nurses surrounding her and holding her down. I couldn't believe my eyes. My sweet Mia. I talked to her and tried to calm her down. She kept trying to sit up. She wanted to open her eyes but she couldn't get them open.

They gave her some fentanyl for pain and that made her fall back to sleep. She woke up 15 minutes later and was much calmer.

 She wanted to open her eyes so badly, but they felt grainy.

This was the day of surgery later in the evening. Her eyes stayed that ketchup-red color for almost a week.

She healed very quickly. Her surgery was on a Friday. I kept her home on Monday and let her rest, and she went back to school on Tuesday.

There are black stitches on the outer part of her eyes. They will take several months to dissolve. So far, we couldn't be happier with the results.

Oliver's Baptism Part III

 After his baptism, we headed over to our house for lunch. We made ham sandwiches and had potato soup. It was a nice warm meal on a cold day!

 He wore Ethan's baptismal outfit.

He received some nice clothes, some money, and some plaques. Thank you everyone for coming!

Oliver's Baptism Part II

We've had Deacon Roger baptize all of our children. He likes to include the entire family in the baptism and it keeps the kids' attention.

 Oliver wasn't impressed with the whole thing. He cried when the water was poured over his head. He was not impressed.

 He was still ticked off.

 He was so loud that we had to get him a bottle. The deacon fed him while performing the rest of the baptism.

 He always blesses the parents and the other children in the family.

 It made it really special that he included other other three children.
