Ethan's First Camping Trip
Mike's parents live in Chamberlain, SD. We've kind of started a yearly tradition where my family goes to Chamberlain for the weekend to camp. My dad, two brothers, and niece went this year along with Mike and Ethan. We decided to let Ethan go at the last minute. He was watching everyone put their shoes on to go and he kept running to the front door. I felt bad not letting him go, so he got to tag along.
The camping trip went well. There was a minor accident. Within one hour of them being on the boat, Mike and my brother Billy were on the tube. My dad was driving and crashed them. Billy fell on top of Mike and his tooth went through his lip. An ER visit and 3 stitches later, they were back on the water. Mike's lip was 4 times its original size. Everyone was teasing him that he had Angelina Jolie lips! (However, his were even bigger!)
I don't think anyone got much sleep! Mike, Ethan, and Grandpa Schmidt shared a tent. I know, sounds fun, doesn't it? Our dog, Elsa, was in there as well. Elsa puked all over the tent. My dad and Elsa snored all night. (And Mike was wondering why I didn't want to go?!) Needless to say, Mike was pretty crabby when he got home! I've included some pictures of them camping. For some reason, Mike didn't take any pictures of Ethan. Oh well, I guess next time!
My niece, Janai, caught a cat fish! Way to go!
My brother, Nathan, caught a silver bass!

Picture Time

We had the kids' pictures done today--scratches, bruises and all! I've been putting them off because I wanted to wait until the bruises were gone, but I don't think that will ever happen! I thought they turned out well for how fiesty the kids were!! Ethan and Mia wouldn't sit still for long. Ethan was really leary of the photographer. You can tell in some of the pictures. Riley was really good during the picture taking!

Riley's 4 Month Doctor Appointment
-weight: 14 pounds 11.5 ounces. This puts her in the 75th percentile.
-head: 16 1/2 inches. This puts her in the 75th percentile.
-length: 23 3/4 inches. This puts her in the 50th percentile.
In comparison, Mia was only 11 pounds 7 1/4 ounces at this age and Ethan was 15 pounds 3 ounces. Riley is right in the middle!
The doctor said she was doing good. She's doing everything a 4 month old should be! Every time Riley looked at the nurse, she would burst out crying. The doctor said it's really early for her to be noticing strangers. Usually, it's a 9 month old thing. I gave her some tylenol when we got home (I always forget to give it to them beforehand!) She was one crabby girl!
Mike was concerned with her feet being clammy all the time. I asked the doctor and it turns out that this is an inherited thing. And guess who she inherited this from? Mike! He said her hands and feet will probably be cold in the winter too.
The doctor said we could start vegetables! I think I'll give her a little more time with the cereal and then go onto the veggies. I think she'll like them though! We didn't start Ethan and Mia on veggies until they were 6 months old. It seems strange to me giving a 4 month old veggies!

Another Tooth for Mia
Way to go, Mimi! Her upper left molar came in. She was a little whiny but nothing too bad!
19 Month Update
The temper tantrums are in full swing. They actually don't bother me too much. I've learned to ignore it. They get over them much faster if I don't pay attention. The thing that tends to get on my nerves is the whining. It drives me crazy, especially when they follow me around the house while doing it. Mia's my whiner. Ethan does it to, but not quite as much. I need to work on my patience when it comes to this!
Our kids are SO picky. They're junkfood junkies! They've learned really quickly that junk food tastes much better than healthy stuff. Ethan has a huge sweet tooth. Mia likes sweets too, but not as much as her brother. They both like french fries, anything chocolate, peanut butter & jelly, cereal, brown sugar pop tarts, juice, they LOVE pop (but hardly ever get any), donuts etc. Mia's favorite food is fruit, by far! Basically, they like anything that's unhealthy for you. Meals have become a struggle. They hardly eat anything when we sit down. They like to throw all of their food down to Elsa. Elsa sits right next to them, too. She's learned quickly where the food is at. Elsa has gained quite a bit of weight in the last few months. Even the vet said she's getting really round! I bought some pediasure for Ethan and Mia. They really like it, but it's kind of expensive so they've been sharing a bottle of it per day. At least they're getting most of the nutrients they need this way!
Ethan is still climbing all over the place. It's getting worse and worse! Nothing is safe anymore. He can reach everything with the help of a chair. He hasn't pushed a chair over to the counter yet. We're in trouble when he figures that out. He's a stereotypical boy. He excels in motor skills and is behind his sister in language skills. He has added "dedta" (Elsa) to his vocabulary. Ethan talks a lot but we can't understand what he's saying. He's getting really good at throwing objects. I've had a few toys come flying at my face. He doesn't do it on purpose, but it still hurts none-the-less. He's got to work on his aim! His favorite thing to do is to go outside. When I tell him we're going outside, he usually grabs his shoes and runs for the front door. Ethan has started not liking things on his hands. If he has food or cat fur on his hands, he runs over and shows them to me so I can wipe them off. I hope this doesn't become an obsession!
Mia is still my cautious one. She hardly ever gets hurt. She would rather watch Ethan climb all over the place and get the bruises. Her vocabulary has really exploded in the past couple of weeks. She can say, "ella" (Elsa), "all gone", "uckie", "bu" (bunny), "tickle tickle", "more", "hot". She has started repeating things that I say. I guess now is a good time to stop swearing! :) She also loves going outside. She thinks it's a big game to run for the road. She makes sure we're looking at her and darts for it. What a stinker! This has gotten her put inside many times, but she still continues to do it. I guess she gets her stubbornness from me. She continues to love Riley, most of the time. She likes to kiss her and stick things in her mouth. She tried giving Riley part of her granola bar today. How sweet! Except that it was made of peanut butter and she can't have it yet!
